Literacy, intelligence and education are three of the most important attributes needed to thrive successfully in a global and diverse world.  Possessing these qualities will place an individual far above his or her associates.

To be literate, intelligent and educated is to take the leadership charge in the 21st century and beyond. All three of these qualities require a mastery of understanding in regards to our communities, cities, states, countries as well as the world. Let’s take a closer look at what each term means in this regard:

Literate

To be literate is to be an accomplished reader, to know and understand what has been read as well as the ability to interpret and express the meaning of various degrees of literature.

Intelligent

To be intelligent is to be capable of making intelligent decisions based on accurate information. An intelligent person will not impulsively make a decision that will jeopardize his or her life, integrity or the life and integrity of others.

Educated

To be educated is to have a vast, universal knowledge of how the world works. Usually, a well-educated individual will be literate and intelligent to some degree. An educated person will know how to read and interpret various kinds of literature as well as make intelligent decisions about life.

When all three qualities are fully developed within the individual, he or she will possess a global consciousness.  Such person will have a keen knowledge of what is going on around them. Such person will not wait for an effect to occur. Instead, he or she will become a cause in the world. Such a person will break new ground, not only for their generation but for the generations to come.

The world needs people with a global consciousness. Gone are the days when you only needed to know what is going on in your neck of the world.  We have all become one in the quest for a utopian world in which all races, cultures, and religions thrive for universal peace, joy, and happiness.

Recommendations

Therefore there must be a national effort to look at every citizen of a nation and see where they are along the journey toward global consciousness.

Educational institutions, local and state governments and religious bodies must all participate in this change toward a universal perception.

The nation that reaches this conclusion and begins to implement it on a national level will surge ahead to become the global frontrunner. Immense progressiveness will be evident.

Goals and objective provide a sense of meaning and purpose in whatever an individual aspire to achieve. Goals and objectives also give a sense of direction. When moving toward goals and objectives, both teacher and students can confidently and effectively complete lessons and assignments daily as well as throughout the school year. Instructional goals and objectives in education have similar intentions. However, they are slightly different.

Instructional Goals

Instructional goals are long range goals designed to foster academic direction over the course of a semester or school year. Instructional goals should be broad and promote an intended outcome. For example, “First graders will learn how to effectively read on a 1st or 2nd-grade level.” In this sentence, the intended outcome for the student is clear. When teachers know what they want the student to be able to do, they can choose the appropriate materials and technique necessary to educate that student.

Objective

Objectives are similar to instructional goals in the sense that they provide direction as well as an outcome. However, objectives consist of short-term academic targets designed to complete instructional goals. Objectives are also measurable and student centered. For example, “By the end of the first quarter, all students will be able to read the first-grade word wall.” This sentence is measurable, tells what the student will do and states the intended outcome. The objective also supports the instructional goal mentioned earlier for first graders.

Resources

Classroom teachers who are having trouble writing their own instructional goals and objectives can obtain them from a variety of sources, included those mandated by state law. Each state has an outline of topics, goals and objectives designed to be taught in every grade level. Another source for instructional goals and objectives is the curriculum guides of the local school systems. Other sources include school-wide improvement projects such as Alabama Reading Initiative and past test scores representing high student achievements.

Single Focus

Instructional goals or objectives should focus on a single outcome. Having several learning outcomes attached to an instructional goal or objective can confuse focus and direction. For example, “Students will be able to understand and use dissecting strategies effectively.’ The goal contains two possible outcomes. However, focusing on one outcome is better because, even though students may be able to understand the principles of dissecting strategies, the may not be able to perform it. Moreover, an instructional goal should cover a broad range of subject matter and content.

The elimination of cyber bullying is largely a diminishing hope for young social media enthusiast. Each day millions of students become targets.  The negative words, phrases, and images placed on social media by cruel peers seek to destroy the image and reputation of their victims.

A social media attack can come from Facebook, Twitter or any other social platform where people share the lives.

If an attack is not stopped, it will continue until it sucks the peace and vitality out of the student or groups who is under assault.  This outcome is the exact intention of the perpetrators. Cyber- bullying can get so overwhelming that it can cause distraught students to commit suicide.  Many young people who have come under a severe attack of cyber bullying have already taken their lives.

Cyber bullying is a tragedy.  While several laws and legal consequences have been implemented to prevent cyber- bullying, the problem is still holding steady.

However, if you are a student who find yourself under a severe cyber bullying- attack, there are several things you can do to stop it in its tracks.  You must get immediate support, especially if the cyber- bullying attacks are coming from various schoolmates.

Parents

First, inform your parents that you are under a cyber- bullying attack.  I know many young people who don’t want to allow their parents to get involved in the situation, but for the sake of your reputation and emotional well-being, you need the support of your parents.

When teachers and administers don’t respond appropriately, your parents should take immediate action by visiting the school and getting to the bottom of the situation.

Life is too precious to allow your reputation or emotional well-being to be damaged by cyber wolves who don’t value the dignity of other people.

Teachers

Next, you should inform teachers that this is occurring. Because it is happening at school, the teacher should be the definitely to know.  It is up to the teacher and the administration to get to the bottom of the issue and uphold bullying policies in place.

Administrators and teachers who ignore the situation could find themselves under state investigation for not responding professionally to the situation.

Law Enforcement

The final thing to do, regarding support, is to inform the police.  Document the words, phrases, and images that are being used destroy your character.  Fill out a police report so that local law enforcement officers can investigate the situation and bring justice upon those who are continuing to perpetuate the assault.

Cyber bullying must be stopped. If you choose to ignore it, the consequences will be devastating for you and the people you love.

Social media should be a place where people come to build each other up by sharing solutions and creating a meaningful connection for the greater good.  However, this is not the reality. There are people who love attacking and ruining the lives of others.

Therefore, by seeking support from teachers, parents and law enforcement can go a long way in combating the desolation of cyber bullying.
